NEWS IN THE PEWS
May 19, 2019

PASTOR GREG WILL BE ON VACATION from Friday, May 24th through and including Tuesday, May 28th. The Rev. Glenn Harris will be the Guest Preacher & Liturgist on Sunday, May 26th. The Rev. Dr. Janice Lee Fitzgerald, Interim Pastor of Perinton Presbyterian Church, will be on call in the case of a pastoral emergency. Her contact number is 585-223-1203.

CHURCH SCHOLARSHIP:  Each year the Board of Youth Ministry awards a $500 scholarship to a student graduating from High School and entering college. To be considered for this scholarship, please submit the required information to Vicki Sherry by June 7, 2019. The scholarship will be awarded on Graduation Sunday. Top apply for the scholarship the student must be a member of this church. To apply please submit the First Church Scholarship Application (the application will be available on the table in Fellowship Hall, just outside the church office), an essay as described in scholarship application, and two letters of recommendation.

CANAL DAYS PARKING FUND RAISER: This year’s parking proceeds will be going to the church instead of the youth mission trip. The church needs your help parking cars on June 1 and 2. If you can help, please sign-up on the rolling bulletin board in fellowship hall. If you have any questions, contact Brian Sherry at 585-233-1010.

BOOK CLUB:  On Monday, May 20, at 1:00 p.m. we will meet to discuss The Sweetness of Forgetting by Kristin Harmel. Due to the Memorial Day holiday we are meeting on the third Monday, not the last Monday.

FREE HYMNALS:  Thanks to the generosity of our congregation, we soon will have new hymnals.  If you would like to keep an old hymnal that was dedicated to a loved one, please take it any time. If you would simply like to have a keepsake of the music of the past 40 years at our church, please take a hymnal any time.  Any hymnals that you take home will reduce the impact on our landfill, so we thank you!  If you have any other ideas for recycling the hymnals, please share them with Worship Ministries.

LIGHT THE NIGHT:  Thank you to Bill and Sue Harris for keeping the steeple lights burning bright during the month of May in memory of their loving parents.

PERINTON FOOD SHELF:  The most needed items are bottled juice, pancake mix, syrup, jelly, applesauce, ketchup, mustard, rice, mayonnaise, fruit cocktail, cake mixes, brownie mixes, frosting, salad oil, coffee, tomato products (not spaghetti sauce), cans of sloppy joe/Manwich, hash, beef stew, and chili. We also need laundry detergent, deodorant, toothpaste, and toothbrushes.
