News in the Pews Weekly Bulletin

June 24, 2018

NATIONAL REGISTER UPDATE:  The First Congregational Church of Fairport was placed on the New York State Register of Historic Places in June 2018.  The nomination will now be sent to Washington, DC for the final decision allowing the church to be placed on the National Register of Historic Places.  This meeting is usually in September. If anyone would like to write a letter supporting the nomination, please contact Jean Whitney before June 27 at 377-8167.

4TH OF JULY PARADE FLOAT:  Thanks to the Coons, we are having a float in the Fairport Fourth of July Parade. Join us in the parade or support us on the sidelines. There is a sign-up sheet in Fellowship Hall. We are also accepting donations of candy to toss from the float - there is a basket in Fellowship Hall. Contact Vicky Hoover if you have any questions, 820-4574.

HEALING SERVICE:  There will be a brief service for Healing and Wholeness in the Snow Room today at 10:45 A.M.  All are welcome!

MEAL REQUEST:  Cathy Steffen recently fell and fractured her tibia. She will be in a full leg brace for 3 months. During her recovery she and Bing would greatly appreciate some help with meals. The Deacons have asked me to activate the "Take Them a Meal" meal sign-up for them. The schedule is currently set up for 4 weeks but may be extended, depending on need, so please sign-up now and/or check back in a few weeks. They would like one meal per week, delivered mid-week (Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday). To sign up, go to or just go to and type Steffen into the box titled "Recipient" and uccmeals into the box titled "Password". Complete details including food preferences and allergies, delivery instructions, home address, etc. can also be found on the Take Them a Meal site.

JULY SPECIAL WORSHIP SERVICE:  Worship Ministries invites our congregation and friends to attend our special 4th of July service on July 1st. This popular service will consist of patriotic American readings, patriotic hymns, etc. to honor our country. There will also be a special Red, White, and Blue Coffee Hour! We have opportunities for adults and families to participate. Kindly sign-up for participation in Fellowship Hall. Be sure to dress to show your pride in America! We will defer July Communion until 7/8.

AUGUST SPECIAL WORSHIP SERVICE:  Worship Ministries invites our congregation and friends to attend our special Hawaiian Shirt Sunday service on August 5th. Wear your favorite island-style apparel! We promise there will be no erupting volcanoes. Plan to stay after church for our Hawaiian Luau coffee hour!

MEMORIAL DEDICATIONS:  The Memorial Committee would like members to know that the Dedications have been completed and are placed in the Pew Bibles throughout the church. We invite members to check them out in the front of Bibles around the church. This effort was accomplished in large part through the efforts of Janet Clark, a past Chairman of the Memorial Committee. The Memorial Committee has also updated a Memorial Book (from 2010 to the present) of gifts given in Memory of, or in Honor of Members of the church. This book is placed on the glass case, in the Narthex, near the Columbarium. Books from previous years are housed within the glass case.

T-SHIRT SALE:  Wear a Fairport First UCC t-shirt to help publicize the 150th anniversary of our church’s sanctuary!  The Membership Board combined with the 150th anniversary celebration committee are selling t-shirts to help to promote our celebration planned for Sunday afternoon, September 23, 2018. Shirts are on sale after church each Sunday in June and this summer.  See Barb Law to purchase one. Wear your shirt at the 4th of July parade, around town, and at other Village events this summer.  Help to welcome new people in the community to our church! $8 per shirt.  Adult Sizes: S, M, L, XL, XXL; Youth Sizes: S, M
